Second edition of the annual themed week on eco-friendly construction
For its second edition, our annual themed week dedicated to eco-friendly construction highlights essential practices for a greener future. In collaboration with Les Elles de la construction and Voir Vert magazine, this event offers an in-depth exploration of circular economy and sustainable construction—key concepts for a more responsible construction industry.
The Circular Economy: A Pillar of Sustainable Construction
The circular economy is at the heart of this edition. This innovative economic model aims to minimize waste by reusing resources throughout their lifecycle. In the construction sector, this involves more efficient material management, reduced carbon footprint, and optimized resource use for sustainable building practices.
This approach helps lower the environmental impact of the construction industry by promoting material recycling and reducing the extraction of new resources. The circular economy is, therefore, an essential solution to today’s environmental challenges.
An Enriching Program of Exclusive Webinars
During this themed week, you will have access to three exclusive webinars on strategic topics related to eco-friendly construction. These sessions will be led by distinguished speakers, experts in their fields, who will share their insights on various subjects, ranging from the circular economy to sustainable construction.

April 26 - Webinar: The Role of the Circular Economy in Sustainable Construction
12:00 PM
Virtual
By Hortense Montoux et Annie Levasseur
The Construction Lab, led by CERIEC, aims to demonstrate, through innovative pilot projects co-created with stakeholders, how to integrate and scale circular economy strategies in the construction sector in Quebec. The initiative itself is experimental and has engaged nearly 150 different people in its activities since its inception. It now leads to tangible projects aimed at overcoming the main barriers to the circular economy in the construction sector. The co-creation process and some examples of concrete projects implemented by the Construction Lab will be presented during this webinar.

April 27 - Webinar: How to Contribute to Change? The Example of Architecture Sans Frontières Québec
12:00 PM
Virtual
By Caroline Thomasset-Laperrière
To the question, "How to contribute to change?", Architecture Sans Frontières Québec responds with conviction: by implementing a system that allows the reuse of architectural components rather than focusing solely on sorting and recycling construction site waste! We will attempt to explain the current issue of managing construction, renovation, and demolition (CRD) waste in Quebec, backed by statistics, while illustrating how the Matériaux Sans Frontières program aims to encourage stakeholders to change their sourcing and waste management habits on construction sites. The concepts of dismantling and deconstruction will be clarified to highlight the difference from demolition, which is the most commonly used option today. The business model of Matériaux Sans Frontières will be presented to explain how prescribing or executing professionals and beneficiaries can contribute to the collective effort to reduce waste in the construction sector. A Q&A session will be held at the end to foster a rich conversation with participants.

April 28 - Webinar: Responsible Sourcing with Bio-based Materials
12:00 PM
Virtual
By Claudiane Ouellet-Plamondon
The most accessible bio-based construction biomaterials are wood, hempcrete, and fiber-based insulations. These materials can enhance aesthetics, quality of life, and comfort. At the same time, certain environmental conditions are crucial to ensuring their durability. It is necessary to develop local supply chains, as transportation of these materials also has an impact. End-of-life management also affects the carbon footprint, which must be considered. Longer service lifespans for these materials thus have a positive impact on the overall usage footprint.
