Press Release

Montreal, April 29, 2024 — From May 27 to 31, 2024, Elles de la construction will present the third edition of Diversity and Inclusion Week. This week will explore the dimensions of diversity and inclusion in the construction industry through several in-person and online conferences and workshops.

"In a context where the representation of women in the construction sector remains limited, it is essential for Elles de la construction to organize this week dedicated to diversity and inclusion. Our aim is to provide a space for discussion and exchange to highlight the importance, challenges, and opportunities that diversity and inclusion present for women in the construction field, in addition to offering them a platform to celebrate their successes, share their experiences, and propose innovative ideas for a more inclusive and equal future in the industry." – Gaëlle Gilles, Executive Director, Elles de la construction

In recent years, the construction industry has evolved to welcome more women. In 2023, a record 7,470 women worked on construction sites, marking a historic high for our sector. However, according to the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ), this figure represents only 3.8% of the total construction workforce.

"The Diversity and Inclusion Week organized by Elles de la construction is an opportunity to recognize and value the contributions of women and people from cultural communities to this vital sector of our economy. This special week also offers a space to raise awareness of the challenges faced by marginalized individuals in the construction field and to discuss ways to foster a more inclusive and equitable working environment for all. It’s a crucial initiative to promote diversity, equal opportunities, and mutual respect in the construction industry: because alone we go faster, but together we go further!" – Florence Morin-Laurin, Business Development Director, HBGC Engineers

For this third edition, Elles de la construction is creating a space conducive to discussions and exchanges to highlight the importance, challenges, and opportunities of diversity and inclusion in the construction industry.

A program focused on the role of women in construction. The planned events will cover several topics such as identity, appearance, the efficiency of inclusive teams, the integration of female talent, and inclusive environments.

In addition, through the organization of a panel, participants will be able to celebrate their successes, exchange experiences, and propose innovative ideas.

All of these events will be led by influential women in the construction field, including Bérénice St-Martin, Chaymae Chraibi, Judive Jean-Gilles, Émily Michaud, Nathalie Laperrière, Nerlande Jules, and Sarra Fekih.
