What Sika observes, learns, and transforms
Over the years, Sika has implemented numerous initiatives to better understand the daily experiences of women on its teams, whether in laboratories, factories, on construction sites, or within technical teams.
Here are some examples of practices put in place to support this reality:
- Fair representation in interviews, aiming for 50% female candidates whenever possible.
- Sika Canada Women’s Committee and participation in the Sika Americas Women’s Committee, dedicated spaces to listen to and address the challenges women face.
- Promotion of work-life balance, including respect for personal time.
- Support programs for parental leave, adapted to new family realities.
- Collaboration with educational institutions to introduce young women to less-known trades in the industry.
Numbers that tell a story of change
Without claiming that everything is resolved, the company has observed some progress:
- The proportion of female applicants has increased from 20% to 24% since 2022.
- The presence of women within the company rose from 19% to 21.9% between 2023 and 2024.
- Since 2023, more than half of interns in R&D, Operations, and Sales have been young women.
Voices describing the reality on the ground
In an internal video, Sika employees share their experiences in technical, industrial, or construction environments. Their stories highlight the diversity of roles—chemists, technicians, operators, managers—and the importance of their contributions to the innovation chain.
“Some people would look at you: a woman on the site? She’s not going to tell me what to do, I’ve been here for 30 years.”
“In the mines, you always have to prove yourself and give a little extra, even if you do everything correctly.”
“We had to show that yes, we were capable: transporting concrete, working in the most demanding environments… Today, there are more of us, and it’s already making a difference.”
